The ST. CATHARINES WINTER CLUB offers Learn-to-Skate group-instructed class for skaters of all ages and abilities. Being around since 1939, the Club has seen thousands of skaters of all levels, ages, and abilities.
Our National CanSkate Program is geared toward learning to skate and we have sessions on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. All CanSkate sessions focus on Balance, Control, and Agility. Our sessions (Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday) are geared toward ages 5-12 and are lead by NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Certified Coaches and are open to skaters of all levels and abilities.
We also offer CanSkate classes for Parent-Tot (ages three to four) on Tuesdays; Teen / Adult Learn-to-Skate (13+) on Wednesdays; PreCanSkate (ages three to five) on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
Our CanSkate Program provides an excellent foundation for whatever skating path you select - hockey, ringette, figure skating, speed skating, or just for general enjoyment. All you need is a pair of skates and a CSA (Canadian Standards Association)-certified hockey helmet. Our program has recently been recognized by Skate Canada as Excellence Exceeded Standard.
Our home rink is the Seymour Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre arena located conveniently right in St. Catharines (240 St. Paul St.)
Registration is done ONLINE and opens by Aug. 16, 2025 (or earlier). Just head to http://www.skatewc.ca to get to our registration page. Our winter season kicks off the second week of September.
For those beyond the badges 1-6 of the CanSkate program and now in the STAR program, the Club can meet your coaching and ice needs all the way from Star 1 to Star 10, as we have a full complement of Certified coaches for any level, age, and ability. STARskate ice time is Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Professional coaches lead the group instructed sessions and are also available for private or semi-private lessons. We offer STARskate group programming as follows: JUNIOR (Star 1, 2, 3); INTERMEDIATE (Star 4,5); SENIOR (Star 6+); OPEN TIME (any Star level)
