The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will officially open its new exhibition 'Last Stop: In Their Own Words' on Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 a.m.
The exhibit explores what it meant to be a Freedom Seeker arriving and settling in St. Catharines after their journey to freedom and features interviews and testimonies that reveal the kinds of lives they lived. The exhibit explores the theme of freedom from enslavement was not equal to freedom from prejudice.
The opening will feature a performance of a poem 'We of Providence' by local poet Eve Atoms, which Eve wrote for the exhibit.
Refreshments and time to view the exhibition will follow the opening.
Also following the opening is a Black History program for children and their families titled "On the Liberty Line" at 11:00 a.m. The program is approximately 45 minutes and explains the history of the Underground Railroad through the eyes of Freedom Seekers.
