138 men died building the Welland Ship Canal between 1913-1935 as a result of dangerous workplace accidents. With a work site unrecognizable by today's safety standards, hundreds of men were injured as they brought one of Canada's most important public infrastructure and engineering marvels to life.
Discover the stories of hard work, danger, and tragedy of the 138 men who died building the Welland Ship Canal with a guided tour.
Meet your volunteer guide at the Museum at 6:30 p.m. and walk down to the memorial, located at the north end of Lock 3.
The tour is available to all by donation and no registration is required. The tour is approximately 30-45 minutes. The tour is fully accessible. All are welcome.
Guided Tours of the Fallen Workers Memorial are a part of the Museum's Open Late series. The Museum is open late until 8 p.m. every Tuesday between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving.
There are no tours on July 8, July 22, and August 26 due to other Open Late events.
